Hope and warmth in a dark winter: Dnipro

Our partner Yevhenii continues his work in Dnipro, even as the war goes on. On December 1st, a ballistic missile landed in the city, killing five people and wounding twenty-seven. Yevhenii writes: ‘We hope for God’s mercy and pray for peace.’

Despite the circumstances, the team is working to the best of their ability. They run support groups for the Deaf community, pensioners, and internally displaced people. This month, they distributed 130 food packages and plan to continue providing medicine, food, hygiene products, and heating assistance through the winter. Plans are in place for running a Christmas event for sixty children with a Christmas story, crafts, treats, and gifts, bringing a rare moment of joy and normality in a time of war.

Winter in Dnipro is bitterly cold and heating is limited due to 3–8 hour power outages each day. Generous donations from supporters have enabled Yevhenii’s team to install a powerful generator in the community church building, so that people can come and warm up and have hot drinks. The team is doing their best to help everyone in need, but running the generator just for one hour requires about 25 litres of fuel, making it very costly to keep it running for long periods. Yevhenii writes: ‘Thank you, everyone who helped to buy this generator and helped to buy the fuel for it.’

If you would like to support teams like Yevhenii’s as they provide shelter and warmth this winter, donate to our Operation Warm Embrace appeal (reference: Winter Appeal).
